Hotel Boat Cruises on the waterways of Western England

The waterways of Western England are mainly navigable rivers and have been important trade routes for centuries. River locks tend to be larger and wider than canal locks so the hotelboats can be broad beam barges or larger river boats.

The River Severn is 220 miles long making it Britain's longest river. At one time it carried goods right up to Shrewsbury and into mid Wales, but the limit of navigation is now Bewdley. Gloucester, Tewkesbury and Worcester are great places to explore. The (Warwickshire) River Avon meanders lazily through verdant watermeadows on its way to Shakespear's Stratford upon Avon. The recently restored Droitwich Canal and the Gloucester and Sharpness Ship Canal make fascinating contrasts to the rivers in this area. There are no hotelboats currently operating on the isolated Monmouth and Breconshire Canal in South Wales.
